Ho Chi Minh City is gearing up for the fifth edition of the Children's Book Festival, which will take place from May 31 to June 9, 2024. The bustling Nguyen Van Binh Book Street, as well as areas of the Hai Ba Trung promenade, convert into a paradise for youthful bibliophiles, providing a healthy summer entertainment option.
This year's theme "Delightful Summer with Good Books" invites 24 publishing firms to participate. The event will highlight the yearly summer release of children's books, featuring illustrated Vietnamese history and English-language film festival submissions.
More than 20,000 book titles, spanning a wide range of genres and topics, including paperbacks, e-books, and audiobooks, will be included, catering to young readers and their guardians.
The "Befriending Books" forum, set for 9 a.m. on June 6, is a major feature of the event. The forum will feature the City's Reading Culture Ambassador, as well as writers, journalists, educators, psychological experts, young authors, and inspirational people. Interactive talks are expected to provide varied viewpoints and useful insights into skill development and the optimal integration of learning and entertainment technologies during the digital age's revolutionary phase.
In a novel innovation, the 2024 festival offers a "Technology Bus," which provides access to virtual reality experiences as well as advanced worldwide scientific and technology insights. Furthermore, artificial intelligence enters the festival's fold, launching a service robot designed to assist and interact with attendees, sparking a desire for science and technology among the kids.
Almost 60 activities will be offered over the course of ten days, representing a 50% increase over the previous year. The festival will include interactive author-reader sessions, lively artistic performances designed specifically for children, as well as creative thinking and participatory activities like book-for-plant exchanges, battery-for-book initiatives, drawing, and sculpture painting.
Furthermore, the Children's Book Award Council and Regulations will be announced on the first day at 4 p.m., representing a boost to the city's literary environment. This award is intended to encourage and celebrate authors and contributions to the publishing industry while also scouting for new literary potential.
